TOUR DESCRIPTION
The adventurous Salkantay Trek is the most famous one in Cusco, it is a great alternative for the Inca Traditional Trail to Machu Picchu. The altitude of the Salkantay mountain is 6,271 m (20,574 ft). You will have the opportunity of seeing beautiful landscapes with a great variety of flora and fauna, overnight in the middle of the sacred mountain Salkantay. The Salkantay Trek is an ancient and remote path where huge snowy mountains adjoin with rain forest which will be a great experience for you.

Day 1: Cusco – Mollepata – Soraypampa, (12 km/ 7.4 miles), 5 hours,

DETAILED TOUR:

DAY 1: CUSCO – MOLLEPATA – SORAYPAMPA
You will be picked up from your hotel at 4:30 am, then you will be transferred by bus to Mollepata (2900 meters/ 9500 feet) arriving at 7:30 am, on the way you will see the towns of Izcuchaca and Limatambo, in Mollepata you will have your first breakfast. After that, you will take a 01 hour hike to Challacancha (3380 meters/ 11,090 feet), from this point, you will begin a 03 hour hike to Soraypampa (3900 meters /12,800 feet) arriving there around 1:30 pm, there you will eat your first lunch and set up your first campsite. After lunch, you will go to the beautiful Lake Humantay.
LAKE HUMANTAY: After 1:30 hike, you will arrive at the impressive Lake Humantay (4220 meters/13,850 feet) where you can enjoy the turquoise color of the lake and the snowy Humantay Mountain peak, then you will make a 40 minute descent to your campsite in Soraypampa for tea time which is around 6:00 pm after that you will eat a delicious dinner prepared by your cook. DAY 2: SORAYPAMPA – SALKANTAY PASS – CHAULLAY
At 5:00 am, you will have breakfast. You will leave from Soraypampa at 5:30 am and hike for 3 hours to the highest point at Abra Salkantay, where we can enjoy views of the snowcapped mountains of Salkantay, Humantay, Tucarhuay, and Pumasillo (4650 meters/ 15,250 feet). You will pass by Salktantaypampa and Soyrococha, you will see a small lake, then you will begin the descent towards Huayracmachay (3800 meters/ 12,470 feet) for about 3 hours, here you will have lunch, then continue the hike. After that, you will continue our descent towards Chaullay (2900 meters/ 9500 feet) for about 3 hours, where your second campsite will be..

DAY 3: CHAULLAY – PLAYA SAHUAYACO – SANTA TERESA
We will have breakfast at 6.00 a.m. after it, you will begin the hike through the jungle with many ascents and descents for about 5 hours and a half. In this area you will pass across many coffee and orchid plantations also you will see many plants used for medicinal purposes. You will have a buffet lunch in Playa Sahuayaco then take a bus (which is included) to our campsite in Santa Teresa, there you will have the option to hop in the thermal baths located in Cocalmayo (Santa Teresa) the entrance is not included in the package, you will return to the campsite at 6.00 pm for tea and dinner.

DAY 4: SANTA TERESA – HIDROELECTRICA – MACHU PICCHU PUEBLO
In Santa Teresa you will start the day with breakfast at 6:30 am and continue the hike for 3 hours towards Hidroeléctrica where you will have lunch in a restaurant, after lunch you will continue the hike for 3 more hours towards Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Calientes) where you will stay in a hostel and have dinner at 6.30 pm.

DAY 5: MACHU PICCHU PUEBLO – MACHU PICCHU CITADEL – CUSCO
This morning You will wake up very early to visit Machu Picchu, where you will have a guided tour of the citadel to see and learn about temples, terraces and all of the incredible stone structures of Machu Picchu after the guided tour you will have free time to take more pictures and continue exploring it on your own.
After the tour, you will return to Machu Picchu Pueblo where you will take the train for your return to Ollantaytambo at 6:20pm. From Ollantaytambo you will take the return bus back to Cusco..
