TOUR DESCRIPTION
Lares Trek is an excellent alternative to the Inca Trail with visits to authentic Andean communities surrounded by impressive mountains, lakes and valleys, this fabulous hike offers a real vision of andean people’s tradition like it was before.

TOUR SUMMARY
Day 1: Cusco – Lares – Huaca Wasi, about 14 km, between 6 to 7 hours
Day 2: Huaca Wasi – Huaca Punku – Mantanay – Yanahuara, about 12 km, between 7 to 8 hours
Day 3: Yanahuara – Mirador De Yanahuara – Ollantaytambo, about 12 km, between 6 to 7 hours
Day 4: Machu Picchu – Ollantaytambo – Cusco, about 4 km, about 2 hour tour.

DETAILED TOUR:

DAY 1: CUSCO – LARES – HUACA WASI
You will be picked up from your hotel at 6:00 am in order to start the beautiful trip to Lares. We will pass by the town of Calca and later visit the archaeological site of Humanmarca, which is a small pre-Inca citadel where you can observe spectacular terraces, temples and Inca streets then continue your journey through the valley of Lares and have breakfast in a great location that has a stunning view of the Andes. After that we will visit the thermal baths where you will have time to enjoy the various pools that has different temperatures ranging from cold to boiling. The water is volcanic and it is considered to be very good for bones, stress, muscular pains and head aches then you will have lunch and also you will meet with the horses and porters where you can leave your backpacks.
Continuing our trip, you will start the first part of your hike, which will take about three hours. During this time the guide will explain about the different industries including: textile, livestock, agriculture and the cultivation of the many variety of organic potatoes and medicinal plants. During the hike you will also see many alpacas, vicunas and the most impressive houses of the Incas then you will arrive at the campsite of Huaca Wasi (3770 m.a.s.l/ 12,370 ft), where the guide will accompany us to the town to visit local homes and learn about their traditions and how they live. If there is time, you will also visit the local school where the children still speak Quechua, the maternal language, you are welcome to bring toys, note books or school materials for the children to share also you can teach them a few words in English. After that you will have dinner, which will be prepared by our chef and then finally head to our tents to rest.

DAY 2: HUACA WASI – HUACA PUNKU – MANTANAY – YANAHUARA
You will wake up at around 6:00 am with a hot cup of coca tea. After breakfast you will continue the hike for three hours to Huacarpunku where you can observe an impressive waterfall. In this area you will also see lakes, other waterfalls, llamas and alpacas. If you are tired you will continue the journey in one of the emergency horses. From here the trail will start to decline, passing by two lagoons (the first lagoon is called Auro Q’ocha where you can see birds of the zone and the second lagoon is called Yurac Q’ocha (3600 m.a.s.l/ 11,800 ft) until the lunch point. Sometimes you will see llamas pass close by. After lunch you will have time to relax by the forest of Q’euñas that has a fantastic view of the valley and houses that were constructed from original ancient stone and have thatched roofs then you will continue the trail to YANAHUARA (3400 m.a.s.l/ 11,150 ft) where you will spend the night.

DAY 3: YANAHUARA – MIRADOR DE YANAHUARA – OLLANTAYTAMBO
After breakfast, you will continue your hike downhill where you can observe the process of making the traditional Chicha (the Inca corn drink) you can taste it, also you will pass by fruit trees, you will realize the change of the climate, the difference in cultivation in the mountains. In this area the people of the Sacred Valley are surrounded by farms of corn, quinoa, kiwicha, peaches, avocados and other types of fruits. We continue the trail ascending to Yanahuara lookout where you can see an impressive view of the Sacred Valley. After that, you will descend to the lunch point that has been prepared by our cook. Here you will say goodbye to the team then take a bus to Ollantaytambo in order to take the train at 12:58 pm to Machu Picchu Pueblo, it will take about 01 hour and 30 minutes.
Overnight in Machu Picchu Pueblo.

DAY 4: MACHU PICCHU – OLLANTAYTAMBO – CUSCO
You will wake up early in order to take one of the first buses around 5:30 am to Machu Picchu Citadel, you will have two hour guided tour of the Inca citadel, then you will explore this magnificent place on your own and take pictures. In the afternoon you will take the bus back down to Machu Picchu Pueblo to take the train back to Ollantaytambo. From Ollantaytambo you will take a bus ride back to Cusco, it will take about one hour and a half.
